Programme 5: Leadership Development for Parliamentarians

Outline of Programme 5: Leadership Development Programme For Parliament, Legislature and government departments (LDPPLGD)

This is a certificate course for parliamentarians and members of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature. It can be later extended to officials of government departments and executives. The duration of the courses will be six months.

The programme will consist of the following five courses and two special seminars:

• Public and Business Policy (4 modules) (Certificate)
  • Module 1: Public Policy/Strategy and Business Policy/Strategy
  • Module 2: Administration of Public Money and Oversight
  • Module 3: Public/Administrative Accountability and Oversight
  • Module 4: Qualitative Research Methodology
• Information and Knowledge Management (4 modules) (Certificate)
  • Module 1: Knowledge Management
  • Module 2: Electronic Resources and Orientation to Basic Action Research
  • Module 3: Computer Skills and Information Systems
  • Module 4: E-Government and E-Commerce
• International Relations and Business (5 modules) (Certificate)
  • Module 1: Portuguese or French or Indian or Chinese or Russian for beginners
  • Module 2: International Relations
  • Module 3: Peace Studies
  • Module 4: Qualitative Research Methods
• Special seminar 1: History of S. African Liberation Struggle (non-exam)
