The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is an entity of the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA). Its mandate is Research, Innovation and Maritime (RIM). MKI’s vision is to be an internationally recognised quality research, innovation and maritime institution driving economic development in province of KwaZulu-Natal. Its mission is to provide timely and accurate economic research to the provincial government to support the attainment of radically transformed, inclusive and sustainable.

MKI offers bursaries to post-graduate, South African students who reside in KwaZulu-Natal, although they may enrol at any tertiary institution in South Africa. MKI invites bursary applications from registered postgraduate (Masters and PhD) students for the 2020 academic year. The applications are open to postgraduate students in the six focus areas of MKI namely:

1. Maritime Economy
2. Manufacturing
3. Tourism
4. Agro-Processing
5. Aerotropolis
6. Green Economy

In addition to these six research focus areas, for 2020 MKI is prioritising funding for students who are doing research in the following areas:
• Rural development and the fourth industrial revolution
• KZN informal sector (best practices, challenges, nature, size)
• KZN youth participation in agriculture

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

Please complete the bursary application form found on the MKI website and email it to mkibursary@moseskotane.com together with:
1. Certified (a) ID copy, (b) academic transcripts, (c) certificates. Certification must not be older than 3 months,
2. Research proposal
3. Budget
4. Proof of registration
5. Proof of residence

The deadline for submission is 24 January 2020.
Submissions made after the deadline will not be considered.
