FREE WI-FI AND ROLLOUT OF JL DUBE BROADBAND INFRASTRACTURE
On 09 July 2020, the Minister of Communications and Digital Technology Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube launched the free Wi-Fi and JL Dube Broadband Infrastructure at Vezokuhle Primary School in Pietermaritzburg. Leader of Government Business, Dube-Ncube in her speech she stated why government is rolling out this programme. She said it is because of many South Africans that are excluded in this digital era due to high cost of data. At the launch, six hotspots were connected. MEC Dube-Ncube said that the government want to see the whole province of KwaZulu-Natal connected, every community member to have access to the internet. The target is 20 500 hotspots throughout the province.
