Applications are invited for the position of Independent Contractor Research Specialist: Statistician based at La Mercy.  The successful applicant will be reporting to the Executive Manager: Maritime and Econometrics

Background:   The Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) is looking to appoint an experienced and suitably qualified South African Citizens to fill the position of an Independent Contractor- Research Specialist: Statistician. The position will be responsible for assisting with conducting research, collation analysis of statistical data, reporting, overall research project coordination and work with MKI and provincial data sets, advise on storage and record keeping of such data.

Minimum Requirements:  Applicants must have a valid master’s degree in Statistics at NQF Level 09  from an accredited tertiary institution. (A PhD degree will be an advantage). Minimum 5 years’ experience in statistics or econometrics conducting research, data analysis and reporting. Five years’ research experience.

Core competencies:  Knowledge of statistical software packages, demonstrates a high attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy of work completed, good co-ordination and project management skills, Ability to understand and apply specified field and/or survey research procedures and protocols. above average oral and written communication, networking, developing relationships, organising, and prioritising, technical and professional knowledge/skills, project management skills and accuracy.

Responsibilities: Position Duties, inter alia: Develop research protocols, assessments, and evaluation tools, Research Project Coordination, conduct assigned research, Collect Data, Analyse Data, Design and write research proposals for project approval, Coordinate pilot projects/feasibility studies as and when required,

Develop research standards and mentor junior researchers, Maintain, and enhance academic partnerships with academic institutions and prepare for and engage in conference papers.

 Terms of Appointment:           The incumbent to the above position will be offered a 9 (nine) month Independent Contractor appointment with remuneration at DPSA level 12.
