Sector Research

We conduct research on priority economic sectors to assist the province respond to economic needs, and to develop sector specific interventions that contribute to economic growth and development.

Moses Kotane Research Institute (MKRI) conducted a series of surveys in five sectors in KwaZulu-Natal, namely food delivery services, spaza shops, hairdressing, restaurant and fast-food, and truck driving industry. The aim was to understand the status quo of the five selected business sectors with interest in gauging the participation of foreign nationals in these sectors.

The Department of the Premier (KwaZulu-Natal) requested an economic analysis report to be drafted for the province covering the last decade. The report examines key economic indicators, tracks the provincial economy, and looks at the prospects of the KwaZulu-Natal province with a particular focus on
eThekwini Metropolitan for the past decade. The aim was to provide insights into the current and historical data to inform stakeholders, strategic decision-makers, policymakers, and other interested parties pertaining to the local economy.
